The town of Naples (pop. 20,000) on the Gulf coast of south-western Florida was founded in 1877 at a time of much speculation in land. It is now a popular holiday resort with elegant shopping streets and a famous wooden pier. Round Naples are a number of beautiful bathing beaches (Vanderbilt Beach, Wiggins Pass, Marco Island, etc.).
